The Doppler capsule explores the singularities of space and time through the interpretation of the Doppler effect by the eyes of Berlin-based Austrian graphic designer and printmaker Julia Schimautz, one of the most important names in the new wave of risography artists.
About the technique – Risography: This now-popular printing technique was invented by the Japanese company Riso back in 1958 and combines analog screen printing techniques with the functioning of a standard photocopier. Its printed results are distinguished by its vibrant and radically contemporary appearance thanks to the strength of the colors used, a genuine texture and the perfect imperfection of its finishes.
Julia’s work explores the so-called perfect imperfection given by the Risograph and creates a unique, colorful and even hypnotic world, inspired by the music posters from the 60s and 70s and old cartoons. Most of the time using rather abstract and geometrical shapes.
An ode to imperfection: in order to preserve the feeling and aesthetics of risography prints we did not correct any of the print’s “mistakes”. As a result, the capsule presents a series of little details like printing marks and incomplete prints that give each item an authentic human touch.

In celebration of our new capsule collection ‘Doppler, by Julia Schimautz’, Julia herself has curated a selection of songs you could easily hear when crossing the door of her studio, DTAN. An eclectic mix of genres and sounds from all over the world. Tune in and enjoy.
